Bondi Sands dived into the US market head first with one of the largest launches by an Australian beauty brand ever in recorded history. With a best-in-class range of self tan, sun care and cosmetic products, the Australian owned brand has blazed a trail of success in the US that will be hard to replicate by any other in the future.

In 2019 Bondi Sands launched its range of award-winning products into the United States market through Walgreens. Since then, the brand has launched into CVS, Riteaid, Target, ulta.com and Amazon.

Online Sales

Preceding the Walgreens launch, online sales of Bondi Sands’ products were dominated by US consumers – standing at approximately 80%. These figures validate how besotted American consumers are with the brand and, in part, confirmed demand existed.

U.S. Retailer – Walgreens in 2019

From 2019, Bondi Sands’ products will be stocked in 7,700 Walgreen stores across the US. The second largest pharmacy retail chain in the nation, Walgreens merged with Alliance Boots to create Walgreens Boots Alliance. With approximately 9,500 stores across the U.S., District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, a presence in Walgreens is highly coveted. The Walgreens range consists of some of Bondi Sands’ top selling products and a number of new product innovations.

Since the acquisition of Walgreens as a retail distributor, the Bondi Sands brand encompasses over 20,000 global retail partners and is the largest selling self-tanning brand in the United States.

Self Tan

Walgreens Appointment – Bondi Sands as Category Captain

Walgreens also recognised Bondi Sands’ track record of success and intimate knowledge of the market by appointing the brand as a Category Captain. As part of this selection, Bondi Sands was involved in designing and updating point-of-sale touch points across all Walgreens stores in its category. The primary goal of this appointment was quite simple – to make Walgreens the go-to destination for self tanning products in the U.S.

U.S. Retailer – CVS

Expanding its reach in the US market, in 2020 the brand launched successfully into over 5,000 CVS stores nationwide, with the Self Tanning Foam in the shade Dark continuing to be the best selling product since launch.

Online Retail and Launch into Canada

The challenges of 2020 also saw an increased need to focus on online e-retail business. With a well-established and successful presence on Amazon, Bondi Sands launched into Ulta Beauty Online (ulta.com) in August, with a range of 16 products, and now into Walmart Online.

Continuing their growth in North America, Bondi Sands launched into the Canadian beauty market through Shoppers Drug Mark quickly becoming the #2 Sunless Brand.
