Following in the footsteps of Bondi Sands’ enormous success in Australia, the brand promptly became the number one selling self-tanning product across the United Kingdom.

Buoyed on by its success in Australia, Bondi Sands quickly realised that consumers in the UK could not get their hands on the sun-kissed natural Australian tan fast enough. Acknowledging the love the British have for the sun, surf, sand and bronzed Aussie tan, Bondi Sands launched in the UK three years after its Australian launch.

A fully formed, fledged, tested, and tried product range by then, the Brits didn’t stand a chance against the natural sun-kissed Australian self-tan that the Bondi Sands’ products offer and had already taken the Australian market by storm. The numbers confirmed it.

UK Retailers

Launched in the United Kingdom in 2015, the Bondi Sands’ range of award-winning products quickly showed dominance over its competitors. Stocked by the two largest health and beauty retailers in the UK – Boots UK (#1) and Superdrug Stores PLC (#2) – it was inevitable that the Bondi Sands’ self-tanning range conquered this market also. By 2016, Bondi Sands products were sold in more than 1400 stores across the United Kingdom.

Most recently, as part of their UK and European expansion strategies, Bondi Sands appointed new distributors in Ireland.

UK Market Share

In 2018, Bondi Sands attained a 35% share of the self-tanning market through its retail partner outlets (Boots and Superdrug).

Consumer Demand in the UK

Paralleling Australia, the Bondi Sands brand has experienced astounding success in the UK market. And, like Australia, UK consumers are particularly enamoured with specific products from its range. For example, in 2018, the phenomenal success of the 1 hour Express Self-Tanning Foam product in Australia was mirrored in the UK, where in just one month following release, product sales had reached approximately 15,000 units. Substantial sales of the 1 hour Express Self-Tanning Foam product in the UK and Australian markets together positioned Bondi Sands as the best-selling self-tanner outside of the USA.  

UK consumers have warmly welcomed Bondi Sands as their tanner of choice. So much so, it is now the top selling brand across the U.K. Making a huge impact, the brand has continued to evolve, along with its growing reputation – expanding its product line with new, innovative and world-first products.

Bondi Sands’ accomplishments in the UK reflect its quality, affordability and just how smitten consumers are with the natural, Australian sun-kissed tan and the renowned beach climate and culture that it symbolises.
