Our Success – Australia

Bondi Sands is Australia’s most popular range of self tanning products on the market. The award-winning tanning range is also number one in its market category in New Zealand and UK.

Stepping out from its initial R&D phase in Australia, Bondi Sands launched its original products onto the self tanning market in 2012. Since this time, the brand has persisted along a significant growth trajectory in Australia – continuing to mature and diversify its much-loved product range.

Market Growth in Australia

By the beginning of 2016, Bondi Sands had attained star status as the top selling self tanning brand in Australia – having experienced growth of close to 400% and an increase in revenue of 180% over the previous half year. As of mid-2018, Bondi Sands, as a global brand, had continued along a staggering path of growth of between 40 and 50% year-over-year.

Market Share across ANZ

Across the largest Australian retailers – Priceline, Coles and Woolworths – Bondi Sands’ self tanning products have established a dominating position, currently experiencing more than 60% share of the total market. In New Zealand, figures are comparable, with Bondi Sands making up an enormous 65% share of the self-tanning market.

Australian Retailers

Since its humble beginnings and launch of three products, Bondi Sands’ extraordinary success – a testament to its quality – has been unrelenting. Having released its initial products in Priceline, the retailer continues to be Bondi Sands’ largest stockist. Today the brand is sold by some of the biggest names in Australian chemist / pharmacy circles – Priceline, Chemist Warehouse, My Chemist, Coles, Woolworths, Target, Terry White Chemists, Big W, Good Price Pharmacy Warehouse.

Consumer Demand in Australia

In 2018, Vogue Australia stated that “close to six out of 10 people in Australia who buy self tanning products buy Bondi Sands.” Further evidence of this brand’s success was seen in its 1 hour Express Self-Tanning Foam product sales. Launched in 2018, the Express product sold close to 30,000 bottles at Priceline stores in just the first week of its release in Australia. This success, together with the product’s performance in the UK market, ensured the 1 hour Express Self-Tanning Foam became the top selling self-tanner outside of the United States.

Springboarding into Diversification

Today, Bondi Sands is the largest beauty brand exporter of Australian owned and manufactured products in the world and in 2019 undertook the largest Australian product launch into the US in history.

There’s no question that Bondi Sands has achieved immense success in the land of its birth – the home of the bronzed Aussie tan. While historically the brand has managed to capture the prime position in Australia’s self-tanning market, all signs point to continuing growth. New developments, world-first innovation and unwaning consumer demand – together with quality and affordable products – indisputably signal a continuing path of success.

Giving Back to the Community

In light of the 2020 Australian bushfires that devastated our home, Bondi Sands launched the Reuse to Rebuild campaign, creating special reusable Frank Green ceramic cups and bottles in an effort to assist those affected by the bushfires.

The Reuse to Rebuild campaign raises money for the months and years it will take for these victims to recover, long after the fires have been put out. The special reusable FrankGreen ceramic cup and bottle are available on the Bondi Sands website worldwide, with 100% of proceeds donated to the Red Cross to support community recovery across Australia.
