About Shaun

As the Co-Founder, Owner and Director of Bondi Sands, Shaun Wilson is an accomplished entrepreneur. With strengths in the areas of brand growth, innovation, and marketing strategy at a global level, Shaun has developed Bondi Sands into a global powerhouse of the beauty industry.

An Aussie from Melbourne, Shaun’s no stranger to the natural bronzed hue of the great Australian tan and the freedom of spending sun-drenched summers at the beach. For Shaun, starting Bondi Sands was simply a natural evolution – perfectly embodying his passion for all-things fitness and health.

An exercise devotee, Shaun studied for his Applied Science degree in Sports and Exercise at Deakin University. Following this, he continued to pursue his passion in the health and wellbeing sector, remaining in the fitness industry. During this time he worked for one of Australia’s top motoring clubs and member organisations – The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV). Here he worked as a Lifestyle and Wellbeing Manager and as a Golf Manager prior to that. No stranger to an industry where looking fit, healthy and natural includes sporting a sun-bronzed Aussie tan, Shaun spotted an unmissable opportunity.

It was during this period that the brand we all know now as Bondi Sands arose. While still in the fitness industry, Shaun, a business professional and experienced entrepreneur, met Blair – the future co-founder of Bondi Sands. Shaun, who now holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Deakin University, became a regular customer of Blair’s tanning bed salon. During this time several disruptions to Blair’s business were unfolding – such as the Victorian government’s new solarium legislation and the public’s increase in sun awareness – and, as they say, the rest is history.

Shaun and Blair spent the next couple of years in the research and development phase. With Shaun’s business expertise and Blair’s product knowledge they quickly realised there was an untapped market. What was missing was a self-tan that not only looked natural – just like the sun-kissed, bronzed tan that is so prevalent at Bondi – but was accessible to all at a reasonable price point. The pursuit of developing the highest quality self-tan, suncare and cosmetic products has consumed Shaun’s life ever since.

From the humble beginnings of a three-product launch in Australia to a number one global self tan product and beauty brand, Shaun continues to guide, innovate and market the Bondi Sands brand. This has led up to the point he and co-founder Blair are at today – a huge global presence in Australia, NZ, UK, Europe and the USA; stocked in over 20,000 retail stores worldwide; and the research, development and diversification of new products and new suncare, skincare and cosmetics ranges.
